Not Foxen Around
Foxen started the month off with a victory in Event #7: $15,100 Pot-Limit Omaha at the 2025 PokerGO Tour (PGT) PLO Series for $315,000. Just a few weeks later, the high-stakes pro and former Boston College athlete took down the seventh event of another series, $15,100 No-Limit Hold'em at the 2025 US Poker Open, for $340,200 and his second PGT trophy of the month.
Alex wasn't the only Foxen to win a trophy at the series. The Event #1: $5,100 No-Limit Hold'em title and $158,025 went to his wife, Kristen Foxen, a five-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner who last year was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.

Foxen's two victories in April only tell part of the story. The former college footballer also finished runner-up in the PGT PLO Series Event #11 $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha - Bounty for $41,610 just days after finishing third in the $15,000 buy-in Event #9 for $143,775.
Not ten days later, Foxen finished fifth in the US Poker Open Event #6 $15,000 NLH for $102,900.
Foxen could have a strong May as well as Triton Montenegro gets underway. He secured five cashes at the Triton Jeju festival in March, including a third-place bounty event finish that earned him $221,000.
Strong Aprils for Matthew Wantman, James Collopy
There were other high-stakes pros who had a good month in April. Matthew Wantman finished runner-up in the Player of the Month race with seven cashes, five top-tens and one victory in a $10,000 US Poker Open event for $231,300, which he followed up with a runner-up finish in a $15,000 buy-in event for $242,550.

Meanwhile, Jim Collopy finished third with six cashes, four top-tens and one victory in the $25,000 PLO Series Championship for $450,367. Later, Collopy finished runner-up in a US Poker Open $10,000 buy-in event for $174,400.
Three non-Americans made the April top-ten: Lautaro Guerra (Spain - 6th), Jon Kyte (Norway - 8th) and Nacho Barbero (Argentina - 9th).

- A player may decide not to pursue a heart sequence if they see, for instance, that an opponent has discarded multiple hearts. This would allow other players to pursue that suit without worrying about competition. Making forming sequences a higher priority than sets is another important tactic. 25-05-31
- Players must strategically choose which cards to discard and which to keep while considering the possible moves of their opponents. The game goes on until one player declares Rummy and wins the round by successfully melding all of their cards. It takes more than luck to win at Rummy Gold; you also need to have strategic thinking and foresight. Monitoring the cards that opponents have discarded is a useful tactic. Players can use this information to make well-informed decisions about which cards to keep or discard by gaining important insights into the combinations they are attempting to create. 25-05-31
- Each player takes turns selecting a card from the discard or draw pile, after which they discard one card from their hand. Players must merge their cards into legitimate combinations in order to win in Rummy Gold. Three or four cards of the same rank but different suits make up a valid set, whereas three or more cards in the same suit in a row make up a valid sequence. For example, a set might consist of three kings from various suits, whereas a sequence might consist of 4-5-6 of hearts. 25-05-31

- The value of skill. But depending just on luck isn't a good plan; skillful play is necessary for steady success. Skill can show up in a variety of ways, such as strategic card management, astute opponent observation, and sound decision-making under duress. 25-05-31
- Players must strategically manage their hands to form valid sets & sequences, according to the fundamental rules. However, variants like Deals Rummy, Points Rummy, & Pool Rummy add new gameplay elements and scoring schemes. Players in Pool Rummy compete to reach a set score limit; at the conclusion of each round, points are subtracted for cards that have not melded. Points Rummy follows a similar idea, but instead of aiming for a score cap, the emphasis is on earning points over several rounds. 25-05-31
- Another crucial piece of advice is to control your emotions when playing. When things do not go according to plan, players of the intense game of rummy may experience pressure or frustration. Players can think more clearly and make logical decisions rather than rash ones when they maintain their composure. Players should also constantly be aware of the habits and behaviors of their opponents; an advantage in predicting their next move can be gained by identifying patterns. 25-05-31

- Rummy Gold's future in the gaming sector seems bright as long as digital platforms keep developing and adding new features. Technological developments like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have the potential to create immersive gaming experiences that could completely change how players interact with classic card games like Rummy Gold. By keeping current players loyal, these innovations may draw in new audiences. Also, Rummy Gold has a chance to become recognized as a respectable kind of entertainment as opposed to just gambling as India's laws governing online gaming become more clear. For online platforms that host Rummy Gold games, this change may result in more funding for marketing & development. 25-05-31
