Irish grinder Conor O'Driscoll is £47,190 richer than a few days ago after he came out on top in the £2,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller at the 2025 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) London festival. At least until the GUKPT London Main Event crowns its champion, O'Driscoll can lay claim to winning the largest score at the recently refurbished Grosvenor Casinos The Victoria.

The £2,000 High Roller drew in 98 entrants, who created a £167,580 prize pool that the top 11 finishers shared. Ryan Fronda was the first to cash, followed by Norwegian superstar Preben Stokkan, who popped the final table bubble.

Neil Wallace, who won a Grosvenor 25/50 event in Reading in April for £10,097, busted in ninth place here for another £4,700. Dutchman Javier Francort, fresh from a sixth-place finish in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP), joined Wallace at the cashier's desk, where he collected £5,200 for his eighth-place finish.

Felix McPeake, another player who jumped in this event after flexing his muscles at the WSOP, bowed out n seventh for £6,200 before Frenchman Arthur Conan, a player with more than $3.8 million in live earnings, crashed out in sixth for £8,380.

It was Conan's elimination that turned the tide in this event. Conan committed 40 big blinds with pocket tens and lost a coinflip against O'Driscoll's ace-king despite flopping a set. The luck of the Irish was with O'Driscoll because the board four-flushed and he scooped a gigantic pot.

Colin Macandrew captured a WSOP Circuit ring in March but has to make do with a fifth-place finish in this GUKPT London event. Fifth place came with £11,550, the Scotsman's fifth five-figure haul of his career.

Fourth place and £15,550 went to Jack Benson, which represents his largest-ever live haul. Benson finished fifth in this event back in 2023 and secured a then-career-best £13,590.

Then came the elimination of Belgian grinder Igor D'Ursel. Down to 18 big blinds, D'Ursel pinned his trophy-winning hopes on ace-jack, a powerful hand three-handed. Unfortunately for him, O'Driscoll looked him up with the dominating ace-king. No three-outer for the Belgian, and he headed into the night having won £22,100.

O'Driscoll and Ali Abdulzahra locked horns and butted heads in a one-on-one clash for the title. The heads-up duo struck a deal that lessened the payout before fighting it out for the trophy and a little extra cash.

The final hand essentially played itself, with Abdulzahra's chips going in from the button with ace-six, and O'Driscoll's red pocket queens making for an easy call. Abdulzahra flopped an ace, but O'Driscoll improved to a set, leaving the at-risk player drawing extremely thin. A king on the turn locked up the hand and the victory for O'Driscoll, rendering the seven on the river inconsequential.

Day 1a of the £1,250 GUKPT Main Event Attracts 123 Entrants

The first of three flights for the £1,250 GUKPT London Main Event concluded on July 17. It saw 123 players enter, but only 19 progress to Day 2.

Robert Nur (341,300) is the overnight chip leader, followed by Gary Fisher (242,600) and an anonymous player calling themselves "W.C." (215,400).
